Magpul Field Case Samsung

Magpul Industries is probably most well known for their AR-15 magazines. They also make some of the best stocks, grips and Glock magazines on the market. They also make a pretty damn good DSLR Camera Sling too. Well they’ve ventured out over the last few years into more lifestyle related items, one of them being phone cases. I’ve used their cases for years, I used to rock a Magpul iPhone case back in the day.

Well now I’ve upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S8 so I decided to give the Magpul Field Case a try with it.

The case I got is in OD Green. Just like with their previous phone cases, the Samsung S8 case is made from a flexible thermoplastic with PMAG styled ribs along the back and sides of the case for added grip. Your phone just snaps into the case, it takes a little effort at first but it’ll go in. Once in the case it’s snug and secure, it you have to take the phone out of the case it snaps out pretty easily too.

There’s a wide beveled opening on the rear of the case for the camera, flash and heart rate sensor. The beveled edge not only looks nice, it makes it easier to place your finger on the heart rate sensor. I’ve tried other Samsung S8 cases that didn’t have a beveled edge and it was difficult to hold your finger on the sensor.

The buttons along the side of the case have a nice, direct feel as well. Those can be a little spongy feeling on other cases.

The Samsung S8 screen has a curve to it along the edges, I would imagine making a case to accommodate that would be difficult but the Magpul case fits so well that it doesn’t interfere with the curved screen at all. You still get full use of it.

The Magpul Field Case also has raised lips along the top and bottle edge to protect the screen when the phone is laid screen side down, another nice touch.

On the bottom edge of the phone are the ports for the speaker, charging dock and headphone jack. The only downside I have found with this case is the headphone jack port is a tad too small for some AUX cables I’ve tried. If I want to connect my phone to the radio in my car I have to take the phone out of the case to connect it to an AUX cable. It’s kind of a hassle, but not Magpul’s fault. They designed the openings to work with the factory Samsung charger and headphones, which they do perfectly.

Final Thoughts

The Magpul Field Case for the Samsung S8 is available in Black, OD Green, and Flat Dark Earth. It has an MSRP of $16.95 but is available for much less online (See Below).

The best part of the Magpul case for the Samsung S8 is it’s made in the USA. At that price point it’s a great deal for a great phone case. Comparable cases at this price point and higher are most usually made in China. While it may not provide the protection of a much more expensive (and bulky) case, it provides adequate protection. It’s gripy enough to stay in place while you hold it yet it doesn’t snag in your pocket. In my opinion the Magpul Field Cases are the gold standard when it comes to cases in the sub $20 price point. It’s just hard to beat them.
