North Carolina ALE replaces unreliable Kimber 1911s

After only more than a year or use, officials at the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement division was forced to find replacement pistols for the Kimber 1911’s they purchased for their agents. Costing $1,055 each, ALE director John Ledford said their Kimber pistols had so many problems that they were forced to replace them with new Sig Sauers. Ledford claimed the Kimber pistols had issues ranging from jams during training exercises to broken sights.

Ruger will start selling SR-556 upper receivers

Ruger announced recently that they will be offering complete SR-556 upper receivers for sale. The upper will be available in both 5.56mm and 6.8mm and will have an MSRP of $1449. If you’ve had your eyes on a Ruger SR-556 rifle then this is a great way to save some cash and build up your own AR-15.

Taliban using US bought ammo against coalition troops

New York Times war correspondent CJ Chivers posted on his war blog about a recent weapons cachet found by the US Military in Afghanistan. Along with the usual suspects of AK-47 rifles and Lee Enfield rifles left over from WWI and WWII (some from before that), Chivers found something quite disterbing that was taken off a dead taliban soldier. Apparently the Taliban was able to get their hands on American purchased ammunition that was given to Afghan police.

Crossman recently introduced their new MAR117 air rifle modeled after the popular AR-15. Their new pre-charged pnematic modular rifle is aimed at competitive match air rifle shooters. It looks and feels just like an AR-15 rifle making it a great practice rifle for AR users. The MAR117 features a removable 8-shot rotary clip and a rifled Lothar Walther barrel. It has a fill pressure of 3000 psi and a velocity of 600 feet per second and is capable of a 10-shot group at 10 meters of less than 9 millimeters. It can shoot 120 shots per fill.
