It seems like every major firearms manufacturer has their own version of the popular AR-15 rifle. Mossberg recently entered the AR market with their new MMR AR-15’s. Their new “Mossberg Modern Rifles” are available in two configurations, a tactical and hunter model. The MMR Tactical is your standard M4 styled AR-15 rifle, the MMR Hunter features a varmit rifle layout in either a black or mossy oak finishes.
This comes as a bit of a surprise, the Swiss Army recently announced that the Swiss Special Forces will not be issued the SIG SAUER P220 or SIG Pro pistols anymore. Three indendent elements from the Swiss Army conducted an evaluation process and came to the conclusion that their SIG’s just weren’t living up to their expectations. They have since decided to go with Austrian-made Glock 17 Gen 4 and Glock 26 pistols. They choose the Glock because of “reliability and durability”.
Not taking away anything from Glock or their renowned history of being one of the most reliable pistol designs of all time. But I have a funny feeling that costs played a major role in the Swiss Army’s decision.

Now here’s a good way to drive consumers away and kiss your sales goals good bye. Chiappa Firearms is starting to use an RFID system in all their firearms. The microchips are rewritable and are hard to remove. While this may not be mandatory on firearms as of yet, this might give the guv’ment a bright idea to require this on all future firearms. Isn’t this what serial numbers are for? Will second hand owners of these Chiappa firearms have to have their firearms reprogrammed with their info? Way to go Chiappa, you ruined Christmas.

Although the Czech Army is no longer using the Vz. 58 rifle, it is still very popular in the civilian market. Later this year CzechPoint will start to import the SA Vz. 58 rifle chambered on the popular .223 cartridge. Made by Czech Small Arms, not CZ, the new .223 Vz. 58 will be available in three models.
A Vz. 58 Tactical model with a folding stock and forward rails will retail for $1,140, a Sporter model will retail for $899 and a High Capacity Sporter model will retail for $999. They’re expected to be available in October, 2011. Check them out at www.czechpoint-usa.com.
