How-to build your own sentry gun

If you’ve played the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game online then you know how badass a sentry gun is, they can take out the entire enemy team all by themselves. Well the folks over at Weapons Grade have put together this DIY to build a completely automatic and autonomous sentry gun. Its seems straight out of the Terminator but it’s actually quite doable. The instructions on everything from the firing mechanism to the open source control software for the sentry are all available online at the sit below. A video below shows the sentry in action, minus a gun attached to it. I’d totally build on, and attach a Nerf dart-shooting gattling gun to it.

CAA Tactical pistol-rifle converter

CAA Tactical showed off their new pistol-rifle converter at Milipol 2009. It makes your pistol handle and feel like a short carbine rifle. The kit adds a front grip, stock, picatinny rails, sight and scope, and an extra magazine holder, it is also compatible for use with a silencer. It does not however, extend the barrel or change your pistol from being semi- to full-auto. It does not turn your pistol into a true rifle, but the new configuration makes your pistol handle more like a carbine providing a more steady platform and thus improving accuracy.

The FN blackbox for guns

FN Herstal recently debuted their Blackbox for guns, it’s a little gadget that can be inserted in any available space within your gun (shown in a rifle pistol grip above). It records shot count, firing sequences, stoppages and more. This will come in handy for all the gunners out there who meticulously keep track of each shot they take with their firearms.

Assassin FPS iPhone game app

There are quite a few first person shooter games for the iPhone out there, but Assassin FPS is the first of it’s kind. It’s a fun little app that will give you quite a bit of cheap entertainment. It uses the iPhone’s camera to create a FPS (first person shooter) game out of your actual surroundings. While there is no storyline or multiplayer type levels, it’s more of a game to entertainment yourself and shoot your friends without the hassle of cleaning up blood or burying bodies.

Mythbusters’ Kari Byron with a big bad gun

I really like the show Mythbusters, not really because I’m into the scientific methods they use and the interesting myths they try and bust. But because of the lovely Kari Bryon and how they seem to try and blow something up or shoot at something in almost every show, it has to be one of the best shows on the Discovery Channel. Well co-host Grant Imahara posted some of these images from one of their current myths their attempting to bust on his Twitter page, yup that’s Kari with a .50 BMG sniper rifle.

HK MP5 Nintendo Wii controller

The Nintendo Wii is the most popular gaming console right now, and what makes it so fun to play is the cool motion control “Wiimotes.” Well here is one that is sure to turn heads, a replica Hecklor & Kock MP5. Displayed at a Hong Kong trade show it is a 1:1 scale copy of the popular German submachine gun. The company who made it plans to sell the new Wiimote in the U.S. but no price has been set as of yet, but we’re sure it’s gonna be pricey. The MP5 features a built-in Wiimote, nunchuck, MotionPlus sensor, speaker, rumble support and a rechargeable battery via USB.

What games will this be used with? We’re guessing Call of Duty!

Governor Signs AB962 Restricting Ammunition sales in California

This is a sad day for Californian firearms enthusiasts. The bill that would restrict ammunition sales in California, AB962, was signed recently by Governor Schwarzenegger. The Governor’s comments are below:

“To the Members of the California State Assembly: I am signing Assembly Bill 962.

This measure would require vendors of handgun ammunition to keep a log of information on handgun ammunition sales, store ammunition in a safe and secure manner, and require the face to-face transfer of ammunition sales.

The Czech Army no longer using the Vz. 58

The Czech Army has used the venerable Vz. 58 since 1958, it has been used by other countries in Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa as well, but it looks like the Vz. 58 will be retired very soon. The Czech news site, Ceskenoviny.cz, reported that the Czech military will be spending quite a bit of money to update their armed forces by 2013. A possible replacement may be the CZ S805 rifle that was developed along with the Czech army. The Vz. 58 is a great rifle, while it looks very similar to the AK-47 on the outside, on the inside it closer resembles the German stg-44, the world’s first assault rifle. Hopefully with the retirement of the Vz. 58 in Czechoslovakia it means affordable Vz. 58’s for enthusiasts here in the US and elsewhere.

The new arms will replace machine guns 58 based on the Soviet-made Kalashnikovs AK 47, Pravo writes.
“It was originally said that only special units will get offensive handguns. The whole military could be rearmed for two billion crowns,” Seda told Pravo.

It writes that the military also plans to spend 3.49 billion crowns on the purchase of light armoured vehicles. Next year 418 million crowns are to be spent on the purchase and a greater part in 2013 and 2014.
