Meprolight M21 Self-Powered Reflex Sight Review

Born from experience with the Israeli Special Forces and baptized through firefights and hard use in the field. The Meprolight M21 Self-Powered Reflex Sight from MEPROLIGHT, is an optics system that is always ready for the fight.

The MEPRO 21 is an always illuminated system due to its fiber optic collector system during the day, and tritium light source at night. This reduces the need for any buttons or adjustment switches allowing the M21 to be extremely ergonomic. There is no on/off switch to fumble with or need for batteries.

Furthermore on ergonomics, the streamline-system comes with quick detach adaptors/mounts that fit on a Picatinny rail. This allows the M21 to be quickly removed and reinstalled while holding a tight zero, all without the needing tools.

Moreover the MEPRO M21 system’s large 30mm lens makes it extremely easy for fast and accurate target acquisition, with both eyes open, for both close to mid-distance shooting during competitions; making this platform ideal for SWAT/HRT operators, military, hunting, and competition shooting.

The MEPRO 21 comes in four reticles options, Triangle,Open “X” Shape, 4.3 MOA or 5.5 MOA (dot), Bull’s Eye (tested). As with a few other sights on the market the adjustments of the sights, windage and elevation, can be done with a coin.

The MEPRO 21 is shockproof and waterproof further allowing it to be used in all weather conditions and temperatures, as we have done through our year-long + review. We used the system in the wettest/muddiest of rainy days in the desert and even out in the snow. The M21 did not fail us. The M21 also has an all metal frame so you know it doesn’t need any babying. The M21 is also backed with a ten year warranty as well, which shows the people at MEPROLIGHT stand behind their work.

Review notes:
•While shooting a targets at around 100 yards away, the bull’s eye recticle completely covered the target making it some what difficult to place tight grouping.
• The lack of a brightness adjustment settings, made shooting with night visions goggles (PVS 14 Gen 3) difficult with the retinal being a bit overwhelming.
•Through the use of the quick detach, we were able to switch the M21 from an AR 5.56 platform to an AR .22 platform (and vice versa) with little to no adjustment for targets > 50 yards. Moreover, no tools are needed for removal/install.

The MEPROLIGHT M21 system may fall a bit short with shots over 100 yard or with the use of night vision, however this system is excellent for its intended use in close quarters target acquisition. Though the weather may change, the reliability did not.
Retailing online from $450-$600, the MEPRO 21 is well priced and will save time and money by cutting out the need to ever buy batteries.

  1. Mepro M21 is a good weapons in the battlefield.it provides instant, all-light aiming capability, without batteries.this weapon is battle proven, simple to use accurately and totally reliable.

    • Nope, not backwards. Compared to the way an Eotech is mounted the M21 does look backwards. But it’s on there right.

    • Hi Mario, at night the reticle is dimmer than pictured above in the day light but it’s still plenty bright at night.

  2. I just recieved one of these for my Patrol rifle. couldn’t get an eotech 512 (older version with night vision) to cowitness ,didnt seem like enogh elevation. Bought one of these and it seems to cowitness easily. Have you ranged anything with the bottom points of the open x? wit the opening in the middle of 5 MOA I figured the bottom of the X around 18 or 20 MOA? or the height maybe 20 MOA also…Have you used it in conjunction with a magnifier?

  3. Hello, do you have any idea of the warranty for the Mepro 21? Lifetime warranty ? I would like to know about their policy. In America who represents them?

  4. It is a 10 year warranty, and they are imported / supported by the MAKO group. I plan on getting one with my Eotech refund money. And I also recommend the triangle reticle. Great for CQB and use the top of the triangle for precision at distance.
